"There are ladies standing in tight skirts, tight tops, and they’re asking men ‘Do you want to come in?’"
By night, beauty parlors are lined with scantily dressed women. They stand framed by neon lights and the shut doors of the businesses they have killed, or are killing. Images of the night scene are low-quality because it is unsafe to attempt to openly photograph the sex workers and their patrons.
The women swarm men (mostly Caucasians) at the escalator landings, inviting them into bars and their parlors whilst latching themselves onto the men's arms. Once in awhile, the ladies fight over a customer. They are a lot less eager to offer their services to Chinese men, as they fear Singaporean plain-clothes police. Yet at the same time, there is a fear of their patrons too. Publicly soliciting illegally, who can these ladies turn to when a 'business agreement' goes wrong?
There is drinking in the open, and sex behind drawn curtains. As dawn breaks and the night 'businesses' close, intoxicated customers stumble out of the building. An occasional scuffle breaks out. A new day begins.
